Once a year we offer a special educational 5-day riding pack-trip to observe and photograph wild horses in Montana and Wyoming. A Special Pack Trip Boot Camp is held one month prior to the trip for those who have little or no experience in riding skills or horse care and handling and want to be well versed in what they need to do to have a safe and enjoyable experience.

Join us as we tour the McCullough Peaks high desert area of Wyoming to observe and photograph wild horses.

By special arrangement with the BLM the McCullough Peaks Herd Management Area in the high desert region of Wyoming is being opened up for our tour only making this pack trip a once in a lifetime opportunity. The trip is guided and includes special educational presentations by Trish Hatley of the Wyoming BLM and Andrea Lococo, Wild Horse Issue Specialist with the Fund for Animals.

The participants will be transported to a base camp from which daily rides will originate. The base camp consists of roomy sleeping tents arranged for your privacy along with a cooking and dining tent. The tour includes all meals including snacks. Drinks are on a BYOB basis so plan ahead. Evenings are spent around a campfire with pleasant conversation and entertainment by Sage Creek Annie and another "special guest". The camp also includes port-a-potties and showers for everyone's convenience and comfort.

Every morning after breakfast, the group will ride out into the wilderness to view wild horses as well as other wildlife and the magnificent sights, sounds and smells of this pristine wilderness area. As an added bonus, this trip is a hands-on packhorse education adventure. Each participant will be given responsibility for two horses, one riding horse and one pack horse, to handle and care for as well as all tack needed. Participants will be instructed on saddling, packing, hobbeling and picketing. Participants will also learn to tell a horses age by its teeth, to give shots (if necessary) help wrangle the horses in the morning and turn them out at night. All of the horses are gentle with many miles of trail behind them so the beginner can feel confident and relaxed. Participants will experience the fulfillment that comes from self-reliance as well as be more in touch with horses and the wilderness.

On the final night of the trip participants will be presented with a commemorative patch with the year of the trip, area and wild horse insignia. Each annual pack trip commemorative patch will be unique.
