The Faces of Slaughter

Between 1990 and 1999 almost two million American horses were slaughtered in US and Canadian plants. Two Belgian-owned slaughterhouses based in Texas kill approximately 1000 horses a week for consumption in the European market.

Behind every statistic is the face and soul of a lonely and terrified animal who was abandoned by humanity. Here are a few of the many beautiful horses that Equus was not able to rescue from a gruesome fate.
