Remarkably
sturdy and resourceful, Wendy was in surprisingly good health
when we found her in the feedlots that serve the slaughterhouses.
Her only injury, as a result of the abuse that she'd suffered,
was torn ligaments in her shoulder, which give her a slight limp.
But that subtle limp was enough to keep her from being rescued
by somebody who wanted a horse to ride. Little did we know when
we rescued her, that she was carrying a baby.

Wendy's baby, Bubba, was born in the spring of that year
and is a healthy, young horse that will never know the pain of
the horse tripping events or the terror of the slaughterhouse.
Safe with us, he will lead the life that all horses should have,
but don't. He has no idea how bad it was for his mother.
