Individual and Group Tours

Visits and tours of the sanctuary allow humans to be surrounded by the consequences of individual and institutionalized abuse and neglect as well as the elements that allow for healing and forgiveness. Children and adults - through handouts, verbal histories and interaction and observation of sanctuary animals - are saturated with the message of “do no harm” as well as the proactive concept of committing one act of kindness each day. For many who visit the sanctuary, the stories they hear become important and transferable to their own lives when they understand the facts of abuse and neglect and yet see and experience the quiet, gentle and forgiving natures of the animals who have survived the stories.

Regularly scheduled tours are not available at this time due to relocation to our new property. Drop-in and self-guided tours will resume in the near future. In the interim, please call the office at (530) 931-0108 and we will be happy to provide you with a special sanctuary tour.

Sanctuary Accreditation

Equus is an active participant with The Association of Sanctuaries and the American Sanctuary Association. We believe any organization calling themselves a sanctuary should be accredited and therefore accountable for the standards of care given the animals as well as standards of business practices and ethics. Standards and accountability are important drivers that have been and will continue to be pushing organizations toward higher and higher levels of professionalism and excellence. With the birth of sanctuary professionalism comes peer relationships, effective training for sanctuary careers, information and resource exchange and technical competence in creating effective and enriching sanctuary environments around the globe. Equus is in the process of applying for accreditation.
